How to upgrade from Presenter to Presenter 2.0

Due to the large overhaul of Presenter, you will need to visit our website and download Presenter again. However, before installing you'll need to uninstall the existing version of VideoCom Presenter that you have on your computer. Once you've done that, you'll be able to install Presenter 2.0.

It should be noted that project files from the previous version of Presenter are not compatible with the new update. As such you should follow the guidance below.

How to migrate projects from Presenter to Presenter 2.0?

Projects that have been created using Presenter are not compatible with Presenter 2.0. Presenter 2.0 uses a new project file format called .ppresx. This is because we have built the application from the ground up using new technology. To migrate your projects, you will need to recreate and rebuild them in the new and improved Presenter 2.0.

Download, install, and launch Presenter 2.0.

If your project used an existing PowerPoint, Google Slides, or PDF, choose that option now. Otherwise, choose blank.

Add your overlay elements from the menu on the right to match your Presenter project.

Add any Presenter slides that you may have had such as camera, videos etc. by selecting + Add Slide.

Can I keep the old Presenter even if I install the newer version?

You’ll be required to remove older versions of Presenter before you can install Presenter 2.0. However, if for any reason you want to keep both versions of VideoCom Presenter installed, that is possible!

Please follow the guide below:

Run the old version of Presenter, then save any projects you may have open.

The default location for your VideoCom Presenter Projects

When you save a project, it is saved as project name.ppres and is stored by default in …\Documents\VideoCom\Presenter\Projects

Close the app.

Right-click the folder, then select Copy (Default: C:\Program Files\VideoCom\Presenter)

Right-click on your old Presenter folder then select "Copy".

Paste the copied folder to your desired new location (e.g. C:\Old VideoCom Presenter\Presenter)

Pasting your old VideoCom installation folder to your desired new location

For easy access, don’t forget to create a shortcut to the old VideoCom Presenter app. Go to your backup folder and look for VideoComPresenter.exe. Right-click on it then select Send to > Desktop (create shortcut)

Create a shortcut for your old Presenter exe file for easy access later.

Rename the desktop icon to Legacy VideoCom Presenter to avoid any confusion with the new VideoCom Presenter app once that’s installed.

Once done, uninstall the legacy VideoCom Presenter from your system's Control Panel.

Download and install the new VideoCom Presenter version.

Doing these steps will allow you to keep the old version of the app, yet still enjoy the awesome features of the new version as well! Just go to your backup installation folder from before and double-click VideoComPresenter.exe to run it like old times!

Following the steps will allow you to run the old Presenter and Presenter 2.0 in the same system.

Why isn't there an easier way to open existing projects in Presenter 2.0?

As mentioned previously, Presenter 2.0 is a completely new app built from the ground up , and as such project files are completely incompatible. We're sorry for the inconvenience it may cause but are confident the new Presenter 2.0 will more than make up for this.
